live together in the wild.

Reaching across more than six million acres of the Indonesian island of Sumatra, the Leuser ecosystem, a pristine intact rainforest, is one of the most ancient ecosystems on earth. The Leuser is home to almost a thousand species of birds and mammals that can not be found anywhere else on the planet. Although it is one of the most biodiverse ecosystems left on Earth, it is also one of the most endangered.

Thousands of acres of the Leuser rainforest are burnt down and bulldozed every year for palm oil production. Where can you find by-products of palm oil? Check the ingredients in the boxes in your pantry, the labels in your clothing, the cosmetics in your makeup bag, the candy in your Halloween bowl, or the paper in your office space. Palm oil can be found in almost everything these days, which means it is being produced at rapid rates, slashing and burning the Leuser every single day.

Part of our mission as I Stand With My Pack is to work collaboratively to help animals in need globally, which is why for the past 3 years we have worked to raise critically needed funds and awareness to help save Sumatra’s Leuser ecosystem. Elephants in the Leuser are estimated to be down to a population of 2800. As a keystone species, their loss is detrimental to all the plants and animals that depend on them to maintain the balance of the ecosystem. Less than 6,500 Orangutan are left in the wild because of this rapid deforestation.

This is why ISWMP has partnered with the Orangutan Information Center in Sumatra to purchase land and develop it into wildlife reserves to protect the majestic species that have existed here for decades. We can’t do it alone, we need your help to protect the Leuser ecosystem before it is gone forever. Donate today, your contribution will help us purchase land for the reserve. For just 50 USD, you can purchase 125 square yards of land. Our goal is to purchase 123,5 acres by end 2020.
