February 19th marked our 2nd ISWMP Pack Walk Fundraiser and not only was it wildly successful but it was an incredible testimony to our community. The attendees walked in style with adorable bandanas donated by Modernbeast, who gives 100% back to animals. Soaking up the LA sun, the group enjoyed the magnificent scenery at Tree People, and came together in support to raise money and awareness for the ISWMP mission. Actions speak louder than words and our community showed up for the pups they love and the pups they want to help. Happiness is contagious so let us lift you and your dog’s spirit through movement, emotional boosts and Paws-itvity! Who doesn’t love spending time with their dog in nature? Let’s talk about Pack Walks. The hype is real.

Getting to know your dog

During the pack walk, you and your dog will be participating as a team in a physical activity. This goes beyond letting your dog play in the backyard, or cut loose at the dog park.  You are both working together toward a common goal, and raising your endorphins together as you burn calories.  Just like a trusted work out partner at the gym, you and your dog will gain more trust in one another as you help and encourage each other along.

Taking them to new environments outside of their daily walk routine is an opportunity to teach them that unknown surroundings can be fun and exciting.  This will help build their confidence to tackle new and exciting adventures!  Just like with humans, you may even be surprised at how well your dog does with a change of pace.

Community Connection

Meet your fellow dog rescue enthusiasts!  The pack walk is a great way to meet other dog lovers that are devoted to giving their dog the best chance at success. The group is often spread out, and interchanging (while employing our spatial awareness skills to keep things friendly and safe), with conversations ranging from your dog’s backstory to your favorite go-to pet store.  We often have dog’s that need a little more time than most to acclimate to other dogs, and make our best effort to help them feel included!   We encourage participants to be respectful of other dogs’ space, and with the help of host, Kelli Jacobson, and other ISWMP team members we will help you to navigate the often tricky world of dog socialization.  Consent is key in any relationship, including your dog!

The Great Outdoors

Along with the benefits of physical activity, getting outdoors and exploring the wonderful parks our city and county have to offer is a great way to clear your mind and connect to nature!  We will rotate the pack walk location each month in order to accommodate as many as possible.  We make an effort to find wheelchair accessible spaces as well if there is a specific need you may have in order to participate, let us know!  We want this to benefit as many people and their dog’s as possible.
